TOPIC: Are You Trouble
Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me.
When Christ comes into our lives through faith, our human spirit goes from death, because of sin, to life, because of God’s great love (Ephesians 2:4). Our spirit is the part of us that contains our authentic God-given identity, our conscience (understanding of right and wrong), our creativity and its expression and our worship of God. Our spirit is incredible!
We are meant to be led by our human spirit under the direction of the Holy Spirit. But when trouble like rejection, abandonment, trauma, and sickness comes into our lives, our spirit can get crushed under the weight. This can trigger our soul to respond in ungodly ways. Trouble of the heart affects our whole being, spirit, soul, and body.
Our soul is our emotions, our mind and our decision maker, which is our will. You could say our soul is our ‘feeler’, our ‘thinker’, our ‘doer’. Therefore, when the soul is steering the ship of our life it often means our emotional and mental state is dictating our decisions instead of the Lord.
Trouble of the heart is a condition which requires a solution and Jesus has the remedy. It’s trust.
But how do we grow in our trust of God? We grow in our trust of God much like we would grow in trust in any relationship. It can begin as we experience the safety and integrity or the day-to-day consistency and absolute unchanging character of someone, no matter what the circumstance. Then we begin to have faith that we can trust.
Trust is heart knowledge not head knowledge! Trust isn’t cultivated in the soul (mind, will, emotions). It is the beautiful response of the human spirit when it has received a profound revelation of God’s undeserved loving kindness and unchanging goodness, despite the reality of trouble, suffering or misfortune. When your spirit knows it, your soul can then believe it and your body will rest in it and often come into order where there is dis-order. True rest can only be found in God (Psalm 62:1).
For many years of my life I lived rest-less. No matter how hard I tried or what I did I could not find rest. My soul was in distress, my spirit was crushed, and my body was sick. God, in His mercy led me through the doors of Ellel ministries in 2008, welcomed me, taught me about His Kingdom principles and began the process of healing in my life. I have experienced His goodness, His kindness, His correction, His unfailing love, and I can now say with absolute certainty that He is trustworthy. If you are looking for that revelation, can I encourage you to reach out today.
PRAYER: Father, I thank You for Your reassuring word that always brings life to my spirit. Forgive me for the times when the trouble of my heart causes me to cope in ungodly ways doubting Your goodness and Your faithfulness. Today I choose to take heart knowing that You have overcome the world, just as You have encouraged me in John 16:33. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
