TOPIC: How Big Is My God
TODAY’S SCRIPTURE: For nothing will be impossible with God. – Luke 1:37, ESV
Seeds of the Kingdom 27 January 2022 MESSAGE
When faced with big problems I sometimes find my mind begins a process of mental gymnastics whereby I spend a large amount of time trying to figure out how to sort the problem. I think about the issue from every conceivable angle and many times I still fail to come up with a solution. This results in much stress. I do pray about it, but it can still seem insurmountable, with no solution in sight. I tend to be the sort of person who likes to have all my ducks in a row, and all my t’s crossed and my i’s dotted, but sadly life isn’t like that.
On one such occasion, when faced with a big issue, I was reminded of a children’s chorus which really spoke to me. It’s one that many will know:
My God is so big, so strong and so mighty,
There’s nothing that He cannot do.
The mountains are His, the rivers are His,
The skies are His handiwork too.
My God is so big, so strong and so mighty,
There’s nothing that He cannot do.
(by Ruth Harms Calkin)
As I reflected on these words, it reminded me of the awesome power of God and the fact that He can sort out any problem. All I have to do is to trust Him and quit trying to sort it out in my own strength. As yet, some of my problems are still unresolved, but I keep thinking about the words of the chorus and it really does help me to remember to put my trust in Him.
It can be so easy to think God is not interested in the areas of huge concern, but He is. Nothing is too big for Him to handle, and nothing is too small or insignificant. The trouble is, in all honesty, I too frequently forget just how big God is and I live as though my God is too small. Things may not always work out according to my attempted plan of action, but it will always have a plan and a purpose if I trust the outcome to Him. ‘And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to his purpose’ (Romans 8:28).
Another reassuring scripture is Romans 8:37-39. ‘No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord’.
I can cast all my anxiety on Him because He cares for me, according to 1 Peter 5:7. I need to learn this lesson well.
PRAYER: Lord, please forgive me for sometimes being so slow to learn the lessons about trusting you implicitly. You care about every single aspect of my life. I bring all my concerns to You, knowing that there is nothing that You cannot do. Please help me to always remember the truth of this. Amen.
