Topic: The Gospel Spreads Despite Opposition
Opening Prayer: Plant my steps in the sure promises of your word today, dear Lord.
Scripture: Acts 13:42-52
Question(s) for Reflection
• Is there any example for me to follow or not to follow?
• What is God revealing to me in this passage?
Read vs.42-44 again and observe how ripe and plentiful the harvest was in Paul’s time. It is still as ripe in our own time (Luke 10:2). May God lead us to the ripe and plentiful harvest by the workings of His Spirit. When the gospel begins to record successes, we must make no mistake that Satan will usually move to obstruct it.
Notice those who were his agents this time and the reason for their action (v.45)? Satan uses any willing person and we must ensure we are not one of his tools. Satan’s tools could be fellow church or fellowship members. When you are working for the success of the gospel, expect opposition and don’t be amazed when it arises.
We must be calm and collected, bearing in mind that the human tools of opposition are not the real gospel enemies. We should focus and deal with the real enemy of the gospel. Note that God also uses satanic aggression to work out his purpose and plans. In this instance, it became an opportunity to fulfil God’s mysterious and eternal plan to save us, the Gentiles (vs.46-52). Glory to God. In the final analysis, the gospel spread mightily despite opposition.
• Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?
