MFM Devotional 28 November 2021
Heaven is real. The story of the rich man and Lazarus in Luke 16:19-31 brings home to us the reality of heaven. While the rich man found himself in hell, Lazarus was taken to the bosom of Abraham by the angels. Matthew 18:10 tells us that angels abide with God, the Father in heaven, while Matthew 22:30 says that when we get to heaven, we shall be like the angels of God. Heaven is the place of everlasting bliss. Our stay on earth is temporary. We are like sojourners on the earth and our proper home is heaven.
In John 14:2-3, Jesus clearly told us that in His Father’s house, there are many mansions and that He was going to prepare a place for us and He would come back to take us to be with Him. If our stay here on earth is a journey to heaven, we must prepare to reign with Christ. Unfortunately, many are not preparing for this journey and many who have died did not prepare for the journey to heaven; hence, they were caught unawares in hell fire. Planning is an important aspect of preparation.
Failure to plan is planning to fail. In Luke 14:28–29, Jesus gave an illustration of planning before embarking on a project. He explained that no man would build a house successfully without first determining the cost. The earth is not our last bus stop and every journey has a destination. The second step is to make up our mind to succeed on this journey by living right with God.
Living a holy life is not negotiable. We must work towards it by putting our flesh under the subjection of the Holy Spirit. Going to heaven is not automatic; we must earn it. What must we do on this journey to make it a success? We must accept Jesus as our Lord and personal Saviour. We must be patient and diligent in our walk with God. We must crucify our flesh and have a good relationship with Him. In addition, we must avoid all forms of sin which can drag us away from God and take us to hell fire.
Memory Verse:
Psalm 139:7-8 – “Whither shall I go from thy spirit or whither shall I flee from thy presence? If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I move my bed in hell, behold thou art there.”
Motivational Quote:
The route to heaven is only visible and accessible to those who are prepared to live a holy life.
Prophetic Word:
The devil will not harvest your soul in hell and the victory of Jesus on the cross shall not be a waste in your life, in the name of Jesus.
