Topic: The Children’s Bread
Fire Scripture: Mathew 15:22– 28
22 And, behold, a woman of Canaan came out of the same coasts, and cried unto him, saying, Have mercy on me, O Lord, thou son of David; my daughter is grievously vexed with a devil.
23 But he answered her not a word. And his disciples came and besought him, saying, Send her away; for she crieth after us.
24 But he answered and said, I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel.
25 Then came she and worshipped him, saying, Lord, help me.
26 But he answered and said, It is not meet to take the children’s bread, and to cast it to dogs.
27 And she said, Truth, Lord: yet the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from their masters’ table.
28 Then Jesus answered and said unto her, O woman, great is thy faith: be it unto thee even as thou wilt. And her daughter was made whole from that very hour.

Today’s message is a three-in-one lesson that all true believers in Christ should learn from. This was a woman who was not from the Jewish nation, a Canaanite, forbidden of the Lord to come into the assembly of the children of God. However, her daughter needed healing, even deliverance from demonic affliction (Matthew 15:22).
She cried to Jesus for help, “Have mercy on me O Lord…” She recognised Jesus as Lord and acknowledged Him as the Merciful One, the mighty Healer, the Great Physician! The disciples told Jesus to send her away because she would not stop following them as she cried for mercy. Jesus turned and told her words that ordinarily could break her heart and cause her to turn back (Matthew 15 vs. 24).
Rather than turn back or be disappointed and discouraged, the Bible affirms that “she worshipped Him and said, “O Lord, help me.” What a broken woman with a contrite spirit (Ps 34:17). Jesus spoke again, telling the woman that healing, which is the children’s bread, is not for the dogs but only meant for the lost sheep of the house of Israel to which He is sent. Doggedly, the woman refused to give up her quest for mercy and intervention. She humbly responded that even the dogs could eat the crumbs from the table. With this level of brokenness and faith, Jesus couldn’t cast her away.
Dear reader, can you stand anyone calling or referring to you as a “dog”? Can you afford to pull off your proud garment and humble yourself as a price and a sacrifice for your miracles? This was a woman whose faith Jesus described as “a great faith”. This uncommon humility and revelational knowledge coupled with holy persistence became the divine keys that opened the door for the instant miraculous healing of her daughter.
This Canaanite woman remains a godly point of reference for all believers and unbelievers. Jesus knew her mind. Perhaps it was a test of her faith. The beautiful side of it is that this woman did not see or hear any offensive word from the Lord. Rather, she spoke faith-boosting words and clung to the Master. Her story and her child’s situation changed for the best. You will not lose or waste any divine opportunity, in the name of Jesus.
