Fire Scripture: Rev. 2:1-7
2 Unto the angel of the church of Ephesus write; These things saith he that holdeth the seven stars in his right hand, who walketh in the midst of the seven golden candlesticks;
2 I know thy works, and thy labour, and thy patience, and how thou canst not bear them which are evil: and thou hast tried them which say they are apostles, and are not, and hast found them liars:
3 And hast borne, and hast patience, and for my name’s sake hast laboured, and hast not fainted.
4 Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love.
5 Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent.
6 But this thou hast, that thou hatest the deeds of the Nicolaitanes, which I also hate.
7 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God.
Outline: MFM Devotional 14th September 2021
This first letter to the Ephesians Church reveals some things about and the city of Ephesus itself. We learnt all these yesterday. The city of Ephesus had the temple of Diana, which was one of the Seven Wonders of the ancient world. It was believed that Diana blesses her worshippers immensely.
Hence, they recognised her as the goddess of prosperity. She was also the goddess of prostitutes that were ready to attend to anybody in the temple. Criminals who ran into the temple were considered to have escaped from punishment. Hence, immorality and crime were the order of the day. Imagine what that society would be like – a suffocating and sinful environment. The church and believers must do everything to hold on to Christ.
Beloved, God told the Church of Ephesus that He knew they hated the Nicolaitans, just as He hated them, because the Nicolaitans were those who were participating in pagan ceremonies, though they believed that once you are saved, you are saved. They are of the opinion that nobody can be totally perfect or be holy – that Jesus loves sinners but hates sin. We have so many of such believers in today’s church.
God is calling them to repentance. Are you one of them? Take instant step to repent and come back to your first love. This is more important to God than all your activities. No wonder, Paul prayed for the brethren in Ephesus that they would come to know the height, depth and width of God’s love for His children. What a dimension of revelation! (Eph. 3:14-19). This is nothing but a mystery of His power and love. May we be partakers of this immeasurable love, in the name of Jesus.
Many years ago I took a decision to love God with all my heart and never to look back, no matter what is happening around me. Beloved, do not be easily deceived by false teachings and fake prophecies. Read your Bible, discover more of the truth of God’s word and claim the promises. God is faithful to perform what He promised.

4. I bind the spirit of satanic operation over my life, in the name of Jesus.
5. Satanic instruction against me, be cancelled by the blood of Jesus, in the name of Jesus.
6. O Lord, let me see what You see in me, in the name of Jesus.
7. O Lord, transform what You need to transform in my life, in the name of Jesus.
