Topic: Leadership Lessons From Bible Characters (IX)

FIRE SCRIPTURE: Luke 3:1-8

Now in the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar, Pontius Pilate being governor of Judaea, and Herod being tetrarch of Galilee, and his brother Philip tetrarch of Ituraea and of the region of Trachonitis, and Lysanias the tetrarch of Abilene,

Annas and Caiaphas being the high priests, the word of God came unto John the son of Zacharias in the wilderness.

And he came into all the country about Jordan, preaching the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins;

As it is written in the book of the words of Esaias the prophet, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.

Every valley shall be filled, and every mountain and hill shall be brought low; and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough ways shall be made smooth;

And all flesh shall see the salvation of God.

Then said he to the multitude that came forth to be baptized of him, O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come?

Bring forth therefore fruits worthy of repentance, and begin not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, That God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham.

MEMORY VERSE: “And now also the axe is laid unto the root of the trees: therefore every tree which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.” – Matthew 3:10

MOTIVATIONAL QUOTE:
Integrity is the seed for achievement. It is the principle that never fails.

PRAISE WORSHIP: Take a worship song as led by the Holy Spirit

PROPHETIC WORD FOR TODAY:
HEAVEN WILL MAKE YOU AN OUTSTANDING CHANGE AGENT IN THIS GENERATION, IN THE NAME OF JESUS.

MFM Daily Devotional 9th August 2021 MESSAGE:

Someone said that life does not get better by chance; it gets better by change. Leaders are positive change agents and leadership involves reformation, among other things. For a leader to effect change successfully, he or she must not be afraid to call a spade a spade. A great leader is usually bold enough to call things what they truly are.

Three Bible characters exemplify this important leadership trait. The first is John the Baptist. In Matthew 3, while baptising the people and preaching about the coming Jesus Christ, a group of self-righteous and pretentious religious officials came to him to be baptised. He called them what they are: “brood of vipers”. The people John the Baptist confronted with their unrighteous ways were convicted by the Holy Spirit and they repented. The same attribute made John to boldly speak against Herod the tetrarch as touching Herodias his brother Philip’s wife and for all the evil which Herod had done (Luke 3:19).

You will recall that Jesus verbally reproved the Pharisees and Sadducees in his days. He called them names and pronounced woes on them. He even got a cudgel and beat the people who were buying and selling inside His Father’s house, reminding them that it was supposed to be a house of prayer.

The last Bible character was Jeremiah. This Old Testament prophet made his face like a flint and delivered all the messages God gave him unto nations, spiritual leaders and political rulers. He was blunt and candid. He was beaten and imprisoned as a result, but he did not budge.

Beloved, whether it is in the church or your secular workplace, whether the people involved are suppliers, employees, or even customers, you must be brutally honest with the people you come in contact with. This leadership trait will take you to the top and sustain you there!
