TOPIC: Living Together As Genuine Brethren

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Joel 2; Joel 3; Hebrews 5; Hebrew 6

FIRE SCRIPTURE: Acts 4:31-37
31 And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness.

32 And the multitude of them that believed were of one heart and of one soul: neither said any of them that ought of the things which he possessed was his own; but they had all things common.

33 And with great power gave the apostles witness of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus: and great grace was upon them all.

34 Neither was there any among them that lacked: for as many as were possessors of lands or houses sold them, and brought the prices of the things that were sold,

35 And laid them down at the apostles’ feet: and distribution was made unto every man according as he had need.

36 And Joses, who by the apostles was surnamed Barnabas, (which is, being interpreted, The son of consolation,) a Levite, and of the country of Cyprus,

37 Having land, sold it, and brought the money, and laid it at the apostles’ feet.

MEMORY VERSE
Finally, brethren, farewell. Be perfect, be of good comfort, be of one mind, live in peace; and the God of love and peace shall be with you.
2 Corinthians 13:11

MOTIVATIONAL QUOTE: Lying may go on for twenty years; but one day, truth will catch up with it.

PRAISE AND WORSHIP: Take praise and worship songs as led by the Holy Spirit.

PROPHETIC WORD FOR TODAY: Receive the grace to always say the truth and put the devil to shame, in the name of Jesus.

MFM Daily Devotional 5 December 2024 Message

The early church brethren lived a beautiful communal life whereby everyone was adequately provided for, and no one lacked anything. Then satan crept in, and we saw how a couple; Ananias and Sapphira, sold a land, brought the proceeds to the Apostles, but kept back a portion of the money. We also saw how the Holy Spirit revealed their deceitful practice to Apostle Peter as well as their tragic end!

Please note that the practice of bringing ’all’ to the Apostles was not a rule but a general communal practice that everyone had come to imbibe and was doing joyfully. Therefore, the problem was not really in their keeping back some of the money, but in their deception.

We can deduce that from Apostle Peter’s response in Acts 5:3-4; “But Peter said, Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and keep back part of the price of the land for yourself? While it remained, was it not your own? And after it was sold, was it not in your control? Why have you conceived this thing in your heart? You have not lied to men but to God.”

However, the materialistic world of today is not particularly welcoming to such communal generosity. Nevertheless, there are still room for genuine fellowship and giving among brethren that could strengthen the church and glorify God.

Beloved, are you like Ananias and Sapphira? Are you deceptive or sincere in your dealings with the brethren and fellow humans? Do you collaborate with your spouse or other people to deceive and perpetrate evil? Exodus 23:2a says: “You shall not follow a crowd to do evil.” Make a decision today to live a genuine life of a true child of God that fosters love, joy and peace among brethren and gives glory to God Almighty. God bless you.
