MFM Daily Devotional 29 March 2023 MESSAGE

The problem of error is that the victims always seem to forget where they are coming from: forgetting that it was by God’s grace that they survived their undignifying position before being lifted very high. In our fire scripture Uzziah seemed to have forgotten that all he had done was through the help of God and the favour God had given him through others. The result was pride, and it led him into the sins of self-reliance and unfaithfulness.

The second chapter of the book of Philippians has this to say, verse 3, “Let nothing be done through strife and vain glory, but in holiness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves.” One of the primary enemies of unity amongst common Christians is the natural tendency of individuals to promote their own interests above others, not regarding the views and opinions of others. Part of our sinful, rebellious nature is self-centeredness. This is encouraged because the world does not reward humility, yet humility is a key factor among other Christian virtues. It is a key quality of Jesus’ character.

Dearly beloved, too often, after God’s people experience success, they tend to forget how they got there. As a result, they no longer depend on God, but set themselves up for failure. This was the story of king Uzziah in today’s fire scripture.

Uzziah fell into a great error because of pride by taking up the assignments meant for the priests. He did not repent, but continued till Azariah the priest and eighty other priests confronted him. He was disgraced, the king of the whole land. Humility, apology and patience would have given him the upper hand and victory over the spirit of error that led to his downfall. This is a valid example for us to learn from and flee from the sin of pride or any error at all that could take a man from grace to grass.

The only way to have victory over error is to go the way of humility, teachableness and patience. You don’t lose anything by being humble; in fact, you will gain everything as Jesus did (Philippian 2:8).
