Topic: The Fear Of God (ii)
Fire Scripture: Deut. 6: 1-5
6 Now these are the commandments, the statutes, and the judgments, which the Lord your God commanded to teach you, that ye might do them in the land whither ye go to possess it:
2 That thou mightest fear the Lord thy God, to keep all his statutes and his commandments, which I command thee, thou, and thy son, and thy son’s son, all the days of thy life; and that thy days may be prolonged.
3 Hear therefore, O Israel, and observe to do it; that it may be well with thee, and that ye may increase mightily, as the Lord God of thy fathers hath promised thee, in the land that floweth with milk and honey.
4 Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God is one Lord:
5 And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.

MFM Daily Devotional 25th July 2021 OUTLINE
In the Old Testament, we see that, there were frequent commands to God’s people to “fear God” or to “fear the Lord.” It is also important for us followers of Jesus Christ to understand what the command means today. Only when we fear the Lord will we be free from all destructive and satanic fears (Prov. 14:27).
When we fear God, we can avoid being diverted from His way, defying Him, doing what we want and damning the consequences of living immoral lives. The command to fear the Lord is central to our relationship with God as Christians. First, we must recognise that God is merciful, loving and forgiving, but He is also holy, just and righteous. These attributes of God make us to understand that He will judge sin. Therefore, true fear of God causes believers to place their faith and trust in Him alone for their salvation.
The fear of God prolongs man’s life. It makes a man to become the beloved of God, such as we could see in all His prophets such as Moses, Abraham and so on. The fear of God is a missing ingredient today in our Christian living. Many commit sin and disobey God’s word with impunity. Beloved, if you fear God, you will not fornicate, steal, gossip, tell lies and many more. Remember, the conclusion of the whole matter, Fear of God! Abraham feared God and that holy fear made him to obey God. It also earned him God’s commendation and untold blessings.
In Genesis 22:12, the Bible records, “And he said, Lay not thine hand upon the lad, neither do anything unto him: for now I know that thou fearest God seeing that thou hast not withheld thy son, thine only son from me.” Let the fear of God rule your life and propel it to always please God. Beloved, both Job’s and Abraham’s examples are written for your learning. Emulate them!

HYMN
Christian, walk carefully
Christian, walk carefully: danger is near!
On in thy journey with trembling and fear;
Snares from without, and temptations within,
Seek to entice thee once more into sin.
Chorus:
Christian, walk carefully:
Christian, walk carefully,
Christian, walk carefully:
danger is near!
Christian, walk cheerfully through the fierce storm,
Dark though the sky with its threats of alarm;
Soon will the clouds and the trees be o’er,
Then with thy Saviour thou’ll rest evermore.
Christian, walk prayerfully: oft wilt thou fall,
If thou forget on thy Saviour to call.
Safe thou shalt walk through trial and care,
If thou art clad in the armour of prayer.
