MFM Daily Devotional 24 November 2024 Message

There is a spiritual phenomenon called the personal Esau. This refers to a potential source of hindrance to the fulfilment of your destiny. A personal Esau is hiding in each of us. Esau is one Bible character who reminds us of the fact that we cannot dismiss our secret battles with a wave of the hand. He also allows us to note the following realities: First, the major and stubborn battles that we fight are the battles from home.

Your battle might even have started from the womb. Second, that you may be battling with household wickedness; and that sibling rivalry as well as family contention is very rampant in the Scripture. The Bible brought out these stories for us to read and learn from them.

There are deep truths to learn from all instances of family contention found in the Scripture. One of these contentions was between Esau and his twin brother, Jacob. Their story tells us how people, who started life together, end up going different ways and making different choices about their destinies.

These two children of Rebecca commenced their battle right from the womb, with one holding tightly to the heel of the other. The lesson here is that a person’s battle may start from the womb. If you do not remember when your battle started, then it would be necessary to look within your family, from where your personal Esau might have been responsible for your predicament. You need to pray seriously against this personal Esau.

Family rivalry or family contention as found in the Scripture includes Cain and Abel, Isaac and Ishmael, Jacob and Esau, Joseph and his brothers, as well as between Moses and Miriam. Other contentions are revealed between Mary and Martha, as well as between the prodigal son and his elder brother. Intra-family contentions help to draw attention to the dangers that they may cause to the destiny of family members and also to the need to face them with godly support and wisdom by seriously praying against the personal Esau.
