MFM Daily Devotional 24 April 2025 Message
The Bible defines love as a way of life. That is, a conscious decision to act in kindness, compassion, and selflessness towards others. Walking in love, therefore, becomes not just a choice, but a duty for all followers of Christ.
Love is so important that the Bible tells us it is the greatest commandment, and that which defines us as true disciples of Christ. In Matthew 22:37-39, Jesus declares, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: Love your neighbour as yourself.” Our love must be directed towards God and towards fellow human beings.
In 1 Corinthians 13, Apostle Paul explained further the significance of love. Verses 4-7 say, “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonour others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, and it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, and always perseveres.” These verses tell us how love should be manifested in our relationships and interactions with one another.

Walking in love requires a transformation of the heart and a renewal of the mind. It means putting others first above oneself, forgiving even when offended, and seeking reconciliation rather than retaliation. It involves showing compassion to those who are in need.
The ultimate example of love is found in the sacrificial death of our Lord Jesus Christ on the cross (Matthew 22:37-39). 1 John 3:16 says, “Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.“ Jesus’ selfless act of love is the foundation of the Christian faith, which demonstrates the extent to which love is willing to go for the sake of others.
