MFM Daily Devotional 21 February 2025 Message

Collective captivity is a situation where all members of a family suffer the same affliction. What happened to the parents is repeated in the lives of the children. For some, it could be all the women or all the men suffering the same thing. For example, there are families where all or most of the women do not marry on time, they suffer from late marriage.

There are also families where the men find it difficult to stand on their feet; so none of them gets established. For some families, it is insanity or other types of ailments. In some cases, it could be immoral behaviour such as promiscuity, perversion, deception and other sinful activities. We have a good example in the Bible.

READ MFM Daily Devotional 20 February 2025 – God of Isaac

In the lives of Abraham and his descendants, we see a pattern which they all followed. Abraham suffered a delay in childbirth before he had Isaac. Isaac also waited for many years to have Esau and Jacob. The same fate befell the beloved wife of Jacob, Rachael, before she could have Joseph.

Abraham told a lie to save his life when he told the people of Gerar that Sarah was his sister. Isaac also did the same thing when he feared that he would be killed because of his wife, Rebekah. Jacob lied to Isaac to collect his brother, Esau’s blessing. Jacob’s children lied to him about Joseph, etc.

We also have the examples of Eli and his sons. In 1 Samuel 2:22-36, we see how God rebuked Eli the priest because of his unruly sons who desecrated the altar of the living God by committing all sorts of atrocities in the temple. The consequences of their sinful activities were untimely death and hard life for even generations yet unborn. The Lord cut them off from His service and sentenced them to a short life of shame and hardship. So, even those who were not born when the offence was committed became liable to the punishment.
