MFM Daily Devotional 21 December 2021 MESSAGE
Continuing from where we stopped yesterday, you can also grieve the Holy Spirit when you fail to apply the word of truth in your life. James 1:22 says you should be the doer of the word and not hearer alone. When you know what the word of God says but you refuse to obey it, you will grieve the Holy Spirit.
In Psalm 31:1, David said that he put his total trust in God. You may have faith in God but do you really trust him? David said to God, “Into thine hand I commit my spirit” – this is complete trust in God. Jesus also said the same on the cross in Luke 23:46 and Stephen did in Acts 7:59. You should commit everything about you to God. But when you do not have confidence in Him and do not do His will, what you are doing is grieving the Holy Spirit.
In addition, the Holy Spirit is the giver of power (Acts 1:8), but when you rely on your own strength, you grieve Him. When you focus on yourself alone without regarding the feelings of others and your expression conforms to worldly saying such as “I before others”, “it is always me”, “me alone”, you grieve the Holy Spirit.
That popular song says that you have no power of your own and you brought nothing to the world. You are what you are by the grace and power of the Holy Spirit. In Matt. 12:31, the bible says that all sins shall be forgiven, but the sin and blasphemy against the Holy Spirit shall not be forgiven. Take heed unto thyself therefore not to grieve the Holy Spirit.
Beloved, many Christians are really grieving the Holy Spirit of God in our contemporary time. When you always fail to listen to the nudges of the Holy Spirit, you are grieving Him. Whenever you demonstrate any unloving attitude to anyone, you are grieving Him. Also, you are grieving the Holy Spirit when you fail to witness for Jesus.
The same is true when you love yourself alone and engage yourself in anything that is displeasing to God, failing to cooperate with Him. You need to know that the Holy Spirit is a gentle man, full of love, and He has been sent to help you in your Christian walk.
Hymn: Begin in me, begin in me
1. O Lord, in me Thy work revive,
Begin this very hour;
Oh, may my eyes in rapture see
Thy Spirit mighty power!
Chorus
Begin in me, begin in me
Thy work of love and power
O Spirit of the living God,
Begin this very hour.
2. Thy weary church has waited long
May it not wait in vain;
Break thro’ the darksome clouds we dread,
And send refreshing rain.
3. Might but a shower of grace descend,
Our hearts would lose their gloom;
The barren hills would all rejoice,
The wilderness would bloom.
4. Oh help Thy people, one and all,
Thy promise to believe,and open
Thou our every heart
Thy blessing to receive
5. We seek, O Lord, Thy blessing now
With one prolonged desire;
Delay no longer, gracious God,
The Pentecostal fire.
