MFM Daily Devotional 18 January 2022 MESSAGE
The pre-eminent position of faith in the lives of believers cannot be over-emphasized.
Similarly, the rewards of faith cannot be denied. God rewards those who believe Him
and diligently seek Him (Hebrews 11:6). Another reward of faith is that it helps to get the desire of our hearts granted.
In Hebrews 6:12, the Bible enjoins us to be imitators and followers of those who through
faith and patience inherited God’s promises. Beloved, you need patience. You must
persevere in faith if you want to get the desires of your heart and finish well. Persevering in faith means that while you wait for your miracle and testimony to manifest, you should keep obeying God’s command, keep growing in Him and never give up.
It takes a violent faith to see the resurrection from the dead. Our Fire Scripture for today is an account of how Jesus raised Lazarus to life. Faith played significant roles in this miracle. The faith of Martha and Mary as well as the faith of Jesus Christ Himself. As far as Mary, Martha, and their sympathizers were concerned, Jesus was late in coming and there was nothing anyone could do to bring Lazarus back to life anymore. Humanly speaking after four days of being in the grave, there was absolutely no hope of resuscitation.
Let us take note of that faith declaration by Martha: “Even now I know that whatever you ask of God, He will give you. That statement of faith overrides their earlier thought and confession, when they said, “Lord if you had been here our brother wouldn’t have died.”
The truth is that, with Jesus, death is not greater than sickness. The Lord has power over both of them. Jesus also made game-changing faith declarations: “Our friend Lazarus sleeps but I go that I may wake him up”.
To further affirm His authority, Jesus told Martha, “1 am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live” (John 11:25). The point here is that Martha’s declaration of faith worked along with the Resurrection and the Life to birth the miracie of raising Lazarus back to life. Have faith in God and you will see His glory!
