22 And he rose up that night, and took his two wives, and his two womenservants, and his eleven sons, and passed over the ford Jabbok.
23 And he took them, and sent them over the brook, and sent over that he had.
24 And Jacob was left alone; and there wrestled a man with him until the breaking of the day.
25 And when he saw that he prevailed not against him, he touched the hollow of his thigh; and the hollow of Jacob’s thigh was out of joint, as he wrestled with him.
26 And he said, Let me go, for the day breaketh. And he said, I will not let thee go, except thou bless me.
27 And he said unto him, What is thy name? And he said, Jacob.
28 And he said, Thy name shall be called no more Jacob, but Israel: for as a prince hast thou power with God and with men, and hast prevailed.
29 And Jacob asked him, and said, Tell me, I pray thee, thy name. And he said, Wherefore is it that thou dost ask after my name? And he blessed him there.
30 And Jacob called the name of the place Peniel: for I have seen God face to face, and my life is preserved.
31 And as he passed over Penuel the sun rose upon him, and he halted upon his thigh.
32 Therefore the children of Israel eat not of the sinew which shrank, which is upon the hollow of the thigh, unto this day: because he touched the hollow of Jacob’s thigh in the sinew that shrank.

Jacob wrestled with the angel until he got the blessing he wanted. Yes, he was rich at the time but something was still lacking. He didn’t just sit expecting a change to come; rather, he got into action and wrestled not with a man but an angel.
He was determined that nothing was going to stop him. The Bible says that when the angel saw that he was not ready to let him go, he touched the hollow of his thigh. What situation or challenge are you faced with that seems to be a threat to you? You have to be violent about it in the place of prayer.
From the days of John the Baptist, the kingdom of God suffers violence and the violent takes it by force (Matthew 11:12). The Bible states that the fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much. Everything and anything can be settled in the place of prayer. It means that you should bring everything in your life under the subjection of God through prayer.

Jacob means supplanter or deceiver. It was a bad identity he had carried around for years, but one night of wrestling brought about the change of his name and destiny. Your spiritual identity may be worse. Maybe people equate you with failure, bad luck and poverty. I am here to let you know that you can wrestle your way into a change of identity.
Beloved, Jacob’s story shows that the devil does not want anyone to fulfill his divine destiny. He ensured that Jacob, in spite of the Abrahamic covenant and the glorious promises of God upon his life, was not fulfilled and was struggling. He put Jacob on the fast lane of failure and destiny abortion until Jacob had an encounter with God’s angel.
Today, you can pray yourself out of frustration, failure, slavery, bondage and anything that the devil has brought into your life. Jacob did this and prayed his way to breakthroughs and destiny fulfillment. However, you must first repent of all known sins and make Jesus your Saviour and Lord. Second, you must be an avid reader and consistent doer of God’s word. Third, you must pray without ceasing. Fourth, you must have faith in God. With these, He will turn your Jacob to Israel.

1. O God, help me to have a fireful prayer life, in the name of Jesus
2. O God, help me to stay and prosper in the place of prayer, in the name of Jesus
3. I continue to wrestle until I get what I want, in the name of Jesus

4. O Lord, I refuse to be weary in the place of prayer, in the name of Jesus
5. Fresh fire for midnight prayers fall upon me, in the name of Jesus
6. O Lord, erase my unproductive identity, in the name of Jesus
7. O Lord, give me a new name that brings about a positive change in my life, in the name of Jesus.
