TOPIC:  Lessons from the Life of Hezekiah (IX)

FIRE SCRIPTURE: 2 Kings 20:12-15
12 At that time Berodachbaladan, the son of Baladan, king of Babylon, sent letters and a present unto Hezekiah: for he had heard that Hezekiah had been sick.

13 And Hezekiah hearkened unto them, and shewed them all the house of his precious things, the silver, and the gold, and the spices, and the precious ointment, and all the house of his armour, and all that was found in his treasures: there was nothing in his house, nor in all his dominion, that Hezekiah shewed them not.

14 Then came Isaiah the prophet unto king Hezekiah, and said unto him, What said these men? and from whence came they unto thee? And Hezekiah said, They are come from a far country, even from Babylon.

15 And he said, What have they seen in thine house? And Hezekiah answered, All the things that are in mine house have they seen: there is nothing among my treasures that I have not shewed them.

MFM Daily Devotional 11 April 2024 Message

So much has been learned about the positive traits of our dear King Hezekiah- a king with an uncommon devotion to God. We now want to explore some of his pitfalls that we can avoid.

Hezekiah lacked understanding as far as dealing with people and the cosmos is concerned. He can be said to be far from being discreet. Probably he thought because he had a good heart, everyone also had a good heart. Far from it, the Bible says that the heart of a man is desperately wicked, who can know it? After his recovery from sickness, the king of Babylon sent emissaries to visit Hezekiah, disguised as friends. They came with a friendly letter but a wicked heart to spy on the liberty of Israel and know how to enslave them.

In verse 13 of our Fire Scripture, the Bible says that Hezekiah hearkened to them and showed them all the house of his precious things. He got so carried away by their fake smile and then went ahead to show them the genesis to revelation of his life and a divine judgement that would affect his posterity was issued by the prophet of God. The Babylonians later came to hold the Israelites captive for 70 solid years. Even a fool, when he holdeth his peace, is counted wise-Proverbs 17:28. Hezekiah was not wise in this regard.

Beloved, when it comes to dealing with the cosmos, we need discernment. Not everyone, no matter how well-intentioned they are, should know all about your life just in one visit. We need to stop seeing men after the flesh. People are deeper than what we can see. There is more than meet the eyes. That is why possessing the gift of wisdom and discernment is no longer a luxury but a necessity. You must receive the Spirit of God to be able to decipher the people in your life. You must also obtain the wisdom to separate the people in your life into their different courts.

Many should belong to the outer court, some at the holy place and only few should be in your inner court. It is your life; guard it jealously lest the enemy come in guise of a friend to spy out your liberty and take you captive. Please, let’s be guided!
