MFM Daily Devotional 1 November 2024

TOPIC:  A Willing Vessel

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Ezekiel 8; Ezekiel 9; 1 Corinthians 8; 1 Corinthians 9

FIRE SCRIPTURE: Luke 15:11-18
11 And he said, A certain man had two sons:

12 And the younger of them said to his father, Father, give me the portion of goods that falleth to me. And he divided unto them his living.

13 And not many days after the younger son gathered all together, and took his journey into a far country, and there wasted his substance with riotous living.

14 And when he had spent all, there arose a mighty famine in that land; and he began to be in want.

15 And he went and joined himself to a citizen of that country; and he sent him into his fields to feed swine.

16 And he would fain have filled his belly with the husks that the swine did eat: and no man gave unto him.

17 And when he came to himself, he said, How many hired servants of my father’s have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger!

18 I will arise and go to my father, and will say unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and before thee,

MEMORY VERSE
Then said I, Here am I; send me.

MFM Daily Devotional 1 November 2024 Message

Vessels are figurative and they represent us, humans, particularly Christians. A vessel to be used by God must have a willing heart to serve God. No employer would want to use an unwilling worker who always complains and grumbles if he or she is asked to do some job. If a cup is near you, empty and clean, but if the cup says “I hate this job. I do not want to do it?” Would you use the cup?

When God created man, God gave him free will. Man can choose to love God and serve Him or live a life to please himself by disobeying God. God respects our free will. The creator does not want to force His creation to serve Him. You cannot force someone to love you. God would rather not use you if you do not want to do the job. He loves a willing worker. The prodigal son recorded in Luke 15:12 chose to leave home away from his father’s presence and lived riotously in the city. It was his choice. His father wanted to force him to stay against his will.

Apostle Paul in 1 Corinthian 9:16 expresses the importance of willingness when he says, “Woe to me if I do not preach the gospel! If I preach voluntarily, I have a reward.” Willingness should accompany our service to the Lord. How can we then cultivate the desire to serve God willingly? The answer is knowing the depth of God’s love for us. What did it cost God to redeem us from hell? It cost God the life of His only begotten son. If you realize God loves you, you will want to serve him willingly in return.

However, beloved, to serve as God’s willing vessel, you must first confess and forsake all known sins. You must also surrender your life to the Lordship of Jesus Christ and live daily in obedience to His word. You must also pray without ceasing and demonstrate unwavering faith in God. The rewards for God’s willing vessels are enormous. You will not miss them, in the name of Jesus.
