TOPIC: Made for Connection
The relationships we develop in church are meant to build us up in Christ.
Even with all the differences in churches, most have one feature in common: chairs or pews all facing one direction. Yes, we should all be positioned to pay attention to the sermon, but we also need to turn around and see the faces of our fellow worshippers. God gathers us so we can walk together on our journey of faith (1 Thessalonians 5:11-18). We need each other in order to grow—to help and be helped (Ecclesiastes 4:9-12).
Take time to notice and appreciate the people God has put in your life. Especially consider those who are different from you—individuals you might not automatically be drawn to. Who’s in a season of life similar to yours? Who could offer wisdom? Who could offer accountability? Is there someone who can encourage you in a hard time (or who needs a kind word)?
The Christian life is at its richest when shared, day in and day out. Prayerfully ask the Lord to help you make meaningful, lasting connections with your sisters and brothers in Him.
• Make a list of two or three people you’d like to get to know better. Ask one to have a conversation over a cup of coffee or share a meal with you. It may be intimidating at first, but joy waits on the other side.
