UNDENIABLE EVIDENCE
“Now there was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews; this man came to Him by night and said to Him, ‘Rabbi, we know that You have come from God as a teacher; for no one can do these signs that You do unless God is with him.'” John 3:1-2
In 1998, the musical group 4 HIM produced a hit song titled, “Can’t Get Past the Evidence.” The chorus had these memorable lyrics:
And I can’t get past the evidence,
I can’t get past the proof,
I can’t get past the evidence
It’s impossible to do.
I can’t get past the evidence,
And I can’t deny the truth.
I can’t get past the evidence of You.
Do you know the greatest piece of evidence that proves Jesus Christ really was and is the Son of God, the Savior of the world, and the Sovereign of the universe? Was it the testimony of John the Baptist, as he pointed to Jesus and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!”? No. Was it the voice of the Father at Jesus’ baptism saying, “You are My beloved Son, in You I am well-pleased”? No. Was it the testimony of demons who shrieked in fear and said, “You are the Son of God”? No.
It was the many miracles Jesus performed. His miraculous works provided objective, verifiable, undeniable proof that He was and is God.
MIRACLES DRAW A CROWD
The people came by the tens of thousands to see Jesus, hear Jesus, and experience His miraculous power. Hopeless lepers with rotting flesh were cleansed and restored. Life-long paralytics were made whole and strong. Blind men received sight. The dead were raised back to life. Withered limbs were made new. Demon-possessed people were set free. It was jaw-dropping, awe-inspiring, and impossible to explain away.
Everyone in Israel knew about Jesus and His miraculous powers. When Peter preached on the day of Pentecost, he said, “Men of Israel, listen to these words: Jesus the Nazarene, a man attested to you by God with miracles and wonders and signs which God performed through Him in your midst, just as you yourselves know ….” (Acts 2:22). It was common knowledge that Jesus performed bona fide miracles.
NICODEMUS KNEW IT
When Nicodemus came to Jesus by night, he was honest enough to confess that Jesus had to have come from God. Why? Because “no one can do these signs … unless God is with Him” (John 3:2).
Who can do what Jesus did? No one. His miracles not only showed that God was with Him, but they proved that He Himself was God. When He walked on the water, the disciples’ minds were blown. They worshiped Him, saying, “You are certainly God’s Son” (Matthew 14:33). His miracles had a message–I AM the great I AM.
And the miracle of all miracles was His own resurrection from the dead. The empty tomb in Jerusalem is undeniable evidence that He is the Son of God, the Savior of the world, and the Sovereign King of the universe. Buddha is dead. Mohammad is dead. But Jesus is alive forevermore!
OUR FAITH IS ROOTED IN FACTS
Never forget that the Christian faith is not rooted in myths and fairy tales, but facts and realities. Jesus is who He claimed to be, and the evidence proves it.
Be encouraged in your faith. Share the evidence. Let everyone know that Jesus is alive and ready to save anybody who will turn to Him in repentance and faith.
