TOPIC: Faith In Trying Times
TEXT: Isaiah 43:1-4 (KJV)
43 But now thus saith the Lord that created thee, O Jacob, and he that formed thee, O Israel, Fear not: for I have redeemed thee, I have called thee by thy name; thou art mine.
2 When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.
3 For I am the Lord thy God, the Holy One of Israel, thy Saviour: I gave Egypt for thy ransom, Ethiopia and Seba for thee.
4 Since thou wast precious in my sight, thou hast been honourable, and I have loved thee: therefore will I give men for thee, and people for thy life.

By the time Franklin Delano Roosevelt (FDR) was inaugurated president on March 4, 1933, the banking system in the United States had collapsed, and nearly 25 percent of the labour force was unemployed. From the records on the FDR Presidential Library and Museum website, the nation was passing through hard times.
Assuming the presidency at the depth of the Great Depression, Franklin D. Roosevelt helped the American people regain faith in themselves. He brought hope and promised prompt, vigorous action. He asserted in his inaugural address, “The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.”

Prophet Isaiah gave this calm assurance to saints in trial: God is there with you. He assures us of the divine ability of God to see us through every life challenge. A reference was made to how God destroyed Egypt’s military and economic might when they stood in the way of Israel’s freedom. Other nations, too, were prevented from hurting them when they prayed and trusted in God.
The word ‘when’ in the passage confirms the unalterable presence of trials along our path. They often teach us the toughness the journey of life requires. Trials bring out the strength in us, imbuing us with the comeback spirit that champions possess. When we retreat in the face of trials, our strength is weak.
Be courageous and fearless. It is in God’s prerogative to determine how best to deliver you in trying times. He may take you out of the problem or take the problem away while you stand firm in prayers. Sometimes, He chooses that you go through trials, but He will be there all through with you.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
Trials seem light when God is in it with you.
