TOPIC: The Power of “It Is Written”
TEXT: Matthew 4:1-11 (KJV)
4 Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil.
2 And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungred.
3 And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread.
4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.
5 Then the devil taketh him up into the holy city, and setteth him on a pinnacle of the temple,
6 And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone.
7 Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.
8 Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them;
9 And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me.
10 Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.
11 Then the devil leaveth him, and, behold, angels came and ministered unto him.

DCLM Daily Manna 30 April 2024 MESSAGE
On October 7, 1857, C. H. Spurgeon preached to his largest audience ever. A few days before the event, Spurgeon had gone to the huge hall to test the acoustics. Stepping into the pulpit, he lifted his voice like a silver trumpet and proclaimed, “Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!” Then Spurgeon repeated the one verse: “Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!” Satisfied with the acoustics, he left and went his way. Unknown to him, two men were working in the rafters of that large auditorium. One of the men was pricked in his conscience by the verse Spurgeon quoted and became a believer later that day! Such is the penetrating power of God’s eternal word!
In today’s text, Satan attempted to trick our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ three times to surrender to his evil antics. Three times, Jesus spoke the Word and shut down the devil’s suggestions.

While it may not be wrong for Jesus to perform these miracles demonstrating divine unction after forty days and forty nights of fasting, the result will not glorify God but the enemy of all that is righteous.
We must never forget that Jesus repudiated the devil with the written word of God. As children of God, the devil will attempt to lure us into sin as he did our Master; but like the Lord, we should use the Word to counter his effronteries. As Jesus got victory over the devil, we are assured of comprehensive victory too if we also firmly and confidently resist him with God’s living, active and wonder-working Word. There is power in the Word!
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Use the awesome power that resides in the word of God.
