TOPIC:  According to His Word

Text:  Psalm 119:57-64 (KJV)
57 Thou art my portion, O Lord: I have said that I would keep thy words.

58 I intreated thy favour with my whole heart: be merciful unto me according to thy word.

59 I thought on my ways, and turned my feet unto thy testimonies.

60 I made haste, and delayed not to keep thy commandments.

61 The bands of the wicked have robbed me: but I have not forgotten thy law.

62 At midnight I will rise to give thanks unto thee because of thy righteous judgments.

63 I am a companion of all them that fear thee, and of them that keep thy precepts.

64 The earth, O Lord, is full of thy mercy: teach me thy statutes.

KEY VERSE:
“I intreated thy favour with my whole heart: be merciful unto me according to thy word.”
(Psalm 119:58)

DCLM Daily Manna Saturday 18 March 2023 MESSAGE

The question has come to many people many times: in times of a life-threatening crisis, who will you trust for relief? God and His promises in the Bible or some seemingly potent earthly cover and its fleeting protection? Those who are disposed to transient power and their authority and pleasures would easily fall for what is handy, with hardly a thought to wait for God and His assurances.

A beleaguered psalmist who understood where true deliverance lay did not hesitate to cry unto God. The “bands of the wicked [had] robbed” him of the peace and joy he wanted. He appeared to face more enemies than he could contend with. Being so overwhelmed, he said, “I made haste, and delayed not to keep thy commandments”. That was when he learned that his personal efforts of being pushed from pillar to post were fruitless. Only then did he recognise that God’s mercy was all he needed.

A troubled world with wars, low-intensity conflicts, political instability, urban violence, economic crisis, immorality, youth restiveness across the nations, untamed health challenges and pandemics, food shortages and a host of other distractions, is unable to deliver itself after applying all known therapies. These assaults on mankind are a consequence of alienation from God and His laws. We must seek help from Him as did the psalmist.

The Lord is patiently waiting for individuals and nations of the world to come to Him so He can bring calm into their raging storms. It is not an endless wait, however. God will one day end His long-suffering watch and close the door of invitation to those who have gone astray and are languishing in sin. According to His Word, He will not turn away those who resort to Him penitently, with faith in Jesus Christ.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Every question of man has an answer in God’s word.
