Everyone desires prosperity and protection but only a few know the secret of such blessings. Many have sought affluence to the detriment of their souls. Yet others are so engrossed in riches and care less about the discipline and spiritual life of their household.

Job enjoyed protection and unparalleled blessings from God. He was described as being extremely wealthy. Besides, the “man was perfect and upright, and one that feared God, and eschewed evil”. Job’s riches have divine imprint and backing. It was supported by God because of his righteousness and hatred for evil. He was not a cheat, an extortionist, oppressor or a haughty person who trusted in his riches or forgot God. Job was mindful of the spiritual status of his household. He prayed regularly for cleansing for his children and fortified them spiritually. No wonder Satan could not just attack them, except with God’s permission.

Riches do not guarantee peace and protection. Security and perfect peace are from God only. They are the heritage of the righteous and those who trust in Him. The Lord “wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on [Him]: because he trusteth in [Him]” (Isaiah 26:3). On the other hand, there is no peace for the wicked and the unrighteous even if he is rich.

Riches cannot provide perfect protection nor assure of a place in heaven. Therefore, all sinners – whether rich or poor – must know that their unjust and sinful lifestyles incur God’s anger and displeasure every day. To be free from sin and enjoy divine protection upon their households and whatever they possess, all such sinners must repent and forsake their sins now.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Righteousness guarantees peace and protection.
