Topic: Blessings Of Obedience
TEXT: Deuteronomy 6:1-5
6 Now these are the commandments, the statutes, and the judgments, which the Lord your God commanded to teach you, that ye might do them in the land whither ye go to possess it:
2 That thou mightest fear the Lord thy God, to keep all his statutes and his commandments, which I command thee, thou, and thy son, and thy son’s son, all the days of thy life; and that thy days may be prolonged.
3 Hear therefore, O Israel, and observe to do it; that it may be well with thee, and that ye may increase mightily, as the Lord God of thy fathers hath promised thee, in the land that floweth with milk and honey.
4 Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God is one Lord:
5 And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.
KEY VERSE:
“Hear therefore, O Israel, and observe to do it; that it may be well with thee, and that ye may increase mightily, as the LORD God of thy fathers hath promised thee, in the land that floweth with milk and honey.” – (Deuteronomy 6:3)
DCLM Daily Manna 13th July 2021 Devotional MESSAGE:
Obedience to the word of God is key to any positive aspiration in a believer’s walk with God. In fact, it is the foundation of our faith. Thomas A. Kempis, in his book, “Imitation of Christ,” counselled that “It is a great thing to live in obedience, to be under a superior, and not to be our own judges. It is much safer to obey than to govern.”
God’s commandments to man are for our welfare and good. In fact, the word of God is given to us as a map or guide to lead us safely in the maze of life and land us in a destination of peace. Moses, in his characteristic faithfulness, did not hesitate to teach the Israelites the importance of obedience. He emphasized that “all” and not “part” of the word are to be strictly obeyed. We are to therefore see it as a duty not only to teach the Word but also to encourage our listeners to live it out in their daily interactions with others. The greatest legacy we can bequeath to the next generation is to transmit the undiluted word of God.
The benefits of obedience in an individual’s life includes physical and spiritual wellness, long life, promotion and security. But for these benefits to be derived, we must do the following: constantly read the Word, consistently obey the commands, committedly reach out to others with the same Word and continually retain and live by it. It is not the quantity of what we know that matters but the measure of our obedience.
The key to obedience lies in our genuine love and fear of God since we will gladly obey the person we love and respect. Genuine love for God cannot be possible until one experiences conversion through the instrumentality of the Spirit of God.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
Obedience is the test of true love for God.
