TOPIC: You Are A Special Treasure
17 Then all the congregation of the children of Israel set out on their journey from the Wilderness of Sin, according to the commandment of the Lord, and camped in Rephidim; but there was no water for the people to drink. 2 Therefore the people contended with Moses, and said, “Give us water, that we may drink.”
So Moses said to them, “Why do you contend with me? Why do you tempt the Lord?”
3 And the people thirsted there for water, and the people complained against Moses, and said, “Why is it you have brought us up out of Egypt, to kill us and our children and our livestock with thirst?”
4 So Moses cried out to the Lord, saying, “What shall I do with this people? They are almost ready to stone[a] me!”
5 And the Lord said to Moses, “Go on before the people, and take with you some of the elders of Israel. Also take in your hand your rod with which you struck the river, and go. 6 Behold, I will stand before you there on the rock in Horeb; and you shall strike the rock, and water will come out of it, that the people may drink.”
And Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel. 7 So he called the name of the place Massah[b] and [c]Meribah, because of the contention of the children of Israel, and because they [d]tempted the Lord, saying, “Is the Lord among us or not?”
8 Now Amalek came and fought with Israel in Rephidim.
Anglican Daily Fountain Devotional 8 July 2022 MESSAGE
In our passage today, the Bible states why God wondrously and constantly showed grace and mercy to the children of Israel above other nations of the earth. He explained to them through Moses that He had miraculously delivered them from Egypt, the land of bondage. He also emphasized how He took good care of them in the wilderness on account of His love.
In clear terms, God desired to have Israel abide by the provisions of His laws and covenant. This would make them a special treasure unto Him above all other nations; they would be His kingdom of priests leading other nations in His worship (vv. 5-6).
Today, we are made to realize that no matter the position we are occupying either in church or society, it is by God’s grace; it is not by our own making. We should note that any blessing we receive is purely through God’s mercy; it is because He has chosen to bless us and not because of our righteousness or qualifications (I Cor.1:24-31).
More so, as children of God, we are chosen by God to be His special treasure, a holy nation and a kingdom of priests to Him. We are to serve as light to the world. He chooses us, not by merit, but because of His everlasting love. We are therefore expected to be merciful to others, love unconditionally, avoid being judgmental; and strive to please God who has chosen us as His treasure.
PRAYER: Lord, help me to live my life as a special treasure; bringing pleasure to you all the time in Jesus’ name. Amen.
