TOPIC: Apart With The Lord On The Mountain
2 Now after six days Jesus took Peter, James, and John, and led them up on a high mountain apart by themselves; and He was transfigured before them.
3 His clothes became shining, exceedingly white, like snow, such as no launderer on earth can whiten them.
4 And Elijah appeared to them with Moses, and they were talking with Jesus.
5 Then Peter answered and said to Jesus, “Rabbi, it is good for us to be here; and let us make three tabernacles: one for You, one for Moses, and one for Elijah”—
6 because he did not know what to say, for they were greatly afraid.
7 And a cloud came and overshadowed them; and a voice came out of the cloud, saying, “This is My beloved Son. Hear Him!”
8 Suddenly, when they had looked around, they saw no one anymore, but only Jesus with themselves.
9 Now as they came down from the mountain, He commanded them that they should tell no one the things they had seen, till the Son of Man had risen from the dead.
Anglican Daily Fountain Devotional 27 February 2022 STUDY
Jesus took Peter, James and John to a high mountain. No one else was there’ (v.2a, TLB) and suddenly, they experienced an exclusive revelation of the Divinity of Christ. This was to remain a secret with them until a time (v.9). They had always been with Jesus (and other disciples) but they never experienced what they saw on that day when only they and Jesus were apart by themselves on the Mountain an experience which would transform their lives forever.
The Mountain is a place of exclusive communion with the Triune God! On the mountain, alone with our Lord, revelations are received into whatever aspect of God He decides to reveal, lessons of life are given and received (consider Moses at Mount Sinai, Ex. 19:20,24; Ex. 20, Jesus on the Mountain, Matt. 5-7). Instructions, insights, solutions and answers are received to issues of life on the mountain (Jer. 33:3; Ps. 32:8).
God’s promises are activated and victories won on the mountain (Ex. 17:8ff). Let us learn to be apart by ourselves, alone with God on our mountains. We will experience transformations that will make us truly fit for the Master’s use.
PRAYER: Dear Lord, help me this and every day to make room just for You and I in the ‘mount.’
