TOPIC: God Detests The Proud
TEXT: Daniel 4:1-18(NKJV)
The passage before us today gives us a picture of how the Lord revealed to Nebuchadnezzar in his dream the plan to humiliate him and bring him to his knees until he acknowledges the sovereignty of God. The Lord God of all wisdom hid the interpretation of the dream from all magicians and their cohorts but revealed same to Daniel His servant to further prove His supremacy over the gods of darkness.
Although the Lord blessed Nebuchadnezzar and endued him with greatness, he revealed his plans to reduce him to an animal and pour contempt on his pride (vv. 4-15). We are encouraged from the narrative above to cultivate the virtue of humility.
All the endowments of individuals, family, Church and nation were given to us by the Lord God Almighty (see Deut. 8:18; Acts 17:28). We must use all that God has given to us to worship Him and like John the Baptist, we must learn to say “He must increase, but I must decrease” (John 3:30).
PRAYER: When I survey the wondrous cross, on which the prince of glory died. My richest gain I count but loss and pour contempt on all my pride.
