TOPIC: How to Draw Closer to God (II)

FIRE SCRIPTURE: John 14: 15-26 
¹⁵ If ye love me, keep my commandments.

¹⁶ And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;

¹⁷ Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.

¹⁸ I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.

¹⁹ Yet a little while, and the world seeth me no more; but ye see me: because I live, ye shall live also.

²⁰ At that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you.

²⁶ But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

MFM Daily Devotional 5 November 2023 MESSAGE

Yesterday, we examined some steps we need to follow in order to draw closer to God. We shall examine more of those steps today. Obedience to God’s word will also determine how close you will be to God. James 1:22, “But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.”

If you study God’s word and memorise the scriptures but you do not obey them, you have succeeded in wasting your time. It is the word of God you obey that draws you closer to Him. God will always partner with the obedient. In John 15:14, Jesus said, “You are my friends if you do what I command you.” Disobedience made King Saul to be rejected by God.

I pray that the grace to be completely, promptly and unquestioningly obedient to God shall be yours from today, in the name of Jesus. Getting the baptism of the Holy Spirit will also bring you closer to God. John 14:26, “But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.”

The Holy Spirit is our helper and enabler. He makes the Christian life easy and possible to live. He helps us to align with the will of God. The Holy Spirit leads us always into the plan of God. If you must be close to God, you must not grieve the Holy Spirit or quench Him in your life. The Holy Spirit enables you live above the desires of your flesh, thereby keeping you in God’s presence always. If you follow these steps, you will always be as close as you desire to God.

Beloved, you can get closer to God through faithful giving. The Bible affirms that God loves cheerful and faithful givers. Your commitment to giving shows that you are a builder of God’s Kingdom and a supporter of His redemption work on earth. You will definitely win God’s heart. Giving is an act of worship, obedience and faith. God rewards it handsomely. One of His rewards is to make a faithful and cheerful giver His close friend. You can give your life, time, money, talents and so on back to God to serve Him.

MORNING
1. O Lord, give me a new heart, in the name of Jesus.
2. O Lord, cleanse me from any form of unrighteousness, in the name of Jesus.
3. Holy Spirit, set my feet on the high way of holiness, in the name of Jesus.

EVENING
4. Satanic embargo placed on my spiritual growth, be consumed by fire, in the name of Jesus.
5. Every coven of darkness fighting me every time I want to grow spiritually, be consumed by fire, in the name of Jesus.
6. Every evil law in my father’s house that stands against true Christianity, be broken by the fire of the Holy Spirit, in the name of Jesus.
7. O Lord, draw me closer to You and away from my fleshly desires, in the name of Jesus.
