Whatever we can easily achieve does not need a miracle. However, when we get to our wits’ end, then we need the miraculous intervention from God to reach our goal. Divine intervention comes into play when common sense, science and philosophy are exhausted in solving our problems.

Today’s text summarises the birth and miraculous preservation of Moses in a most perilous time in Egypt. He was born at a time Pharaoh had decreed death for every Hebrew male child born in Egypt. In a clear demonstration of help from above, his mother devised a unique means to discharge her child to fate in faith. By divine arrangement, Pharaoh’s daughter came to wash by the river, saw the little lad and commanded that the boy be well taken care of by a nurse who by another divine arrangement was Moses’ mother. God’s sovereignty and benevolence was manifested in reconnecting him with his mother who was well remunerated for nursing her own child.

In reality, the story about Moses’ miraculous preservation in the face of imminent destruction reveals the unparalleled faithfulness of God in the affairs of His people. Believers need to constantly ask help from God at all times, particularly when they are at their wits’ end and it seems all hope is lost. Although the name and intervention of God were not mentioned specifically in our text, He could be seen all through it. He is at work in every situation concerning His children to accomplish His purpose.

Salvation and faith in the unfailing word and promises of God attract divine help. Those who seek help from other sources apart from the true God will always be disappointed.
